About narratorINTERNATIONAL

Until 31 October 2015, narratorINTERNATIONAL was a free, online, creative writing competition, with items published daily, seven days a week.

narratorINTERNATIONAL was formerly published as Narrator Magazine Blue Mountains, and then as a free, quarterly, online magazine for NSW/ACT residents, then as narratorAUSTRALIA, narratorUK and narratorUSA, before becoming one consolidated competition open to contributors across the world, who write in English and are aged 18 or over.

We invited new, emerging and established writers to submit short stories and poems to 5,000 words for consideration. Poems were often published two or three per day, depending on length, while short stories in excess of 2,000 words wre generally serialised over two or three days, again depending on length.

What were we looking for? The best in creative writing. We wanted writing that inspired, moved people, maked them think or laugh or cry, or view things differently. We wanted originality and we wanted to provide an outlet for people to develop a following, to get into the discussion about what they do and don’t enjoy. Above all, the aim was to provide an encouraging forum where people would be proud to share their work.

And for every accumulated 100,000+ words we published, we compiled all entries into a print on demand book for readers and contributors alike to purchase. We also created e-versions for distribution through online stores such as Amazon and Smashwords.

And we had a wonderful time doing this, but as the world changes, so we have to keep up, and unfortunately the time constraints and financial cost of publishing narratorINTERNATIONAL eventually became too much. So in mid-2015 we decided to go out on top, while our writers and readers were still happy and supportive of each other.

So thank you to everyone who contributed, read, commented or purchased in the last five years – you have helped encourage others like yourself to share their innermost thoughts with the rest of the world. After all, publishing your writing can be like standing naked on a stage – and most of us need a LOT of encouragement to even think about that, let alone do it!

Happy writing to all our contributors and we look forward to seeing where your respective paths take you.
