A Cry For Help

AA Anderson

Bathurst, New South Wales

Australia

There’s a great big hole where my heart used to be
Because the world that I knew has crashed down around me,
When she stated that night that she just wanted out
I could not comprehend what it was all about.

Another man turned my life upside-down
Took my love, took my life without even a sound,
Now I sit and I wonder why wasn’t I told?
By someone who had seen what was to unfold
I drink my grog, I can’t eat, I just feel so cold.

Were our vows not worth keeping?
When did she kill trust?
Why did she exchange my love for her lust?
She has gouged out my heart and ground it to dust.

I am drowning in tears and seem too tired to swim
Life is filled with my grief and my future looks grim,
I am angry with her, but more angry with him
My body seems heavy, my sanity slim.

He has taken my love, my home and my wife
It’s goodbye, yes goodbye, like a cut from a knife,
To my head and my heart, it’s goodbye to my life
Farewell and Goodbye.

Bio: AA Anderson says, I have seen this happen to both men and women and far too often these days. Also unfortunately to my own son, it is heartbreaking and divides families. A poem from the theme ‘Goodbye’ started by our narrator writers.

The poem is well written and the subject very sad but one can’t dwell on what has gone past. We too have a similar event in our lives and my advice is to accept what has happened and get on and build a new life. Life is short and every day it gets shorter so don’t waste what time you have left wallowing in self pity. Maybe easy for me who has a hide like an elephant!

Thank you for your comment Kirk, you are being very honest. I am of the opinion that it is best to get on with living also, but many find it ver difficult.
Marriages are like eggs, some are good and some are bad and the bad ones are difficult to swallow!

Your words find their mark …many have taken this path, only to repeat their mistakes again and again. I feel for this person and truly wish him well.

Well written AA. Unfortunately I’ve been there also. But as Kirk says you just have to move on. Unfortunately, there are no winners, but … there is new love to be found! I’m pleased to say.

A very heartfelt poem. There are no winners, especially when children are involved. Moving on is the only way forward, but as with any loss it takes time. I shall never understand the mentality of someone (man or woman) who takes everything from someone whom they once held dear and leaves this person with nothing. Unfortunately this happens far too frequently….

Thank you JH it happens too often these days and greed gets the better of some people, often the guilty party.
I think it may be from the media making a story out of some movie stars’ three and four marriages. They seem to discard spouses so easily and it’s especially damaging to the children. Looking forward to meeting you at the Launch.
